Frisco ISD volleyball teams are set to begin district play on Tuesday, September 9, following nearly a month of tournaments and nondistrict matches. The district season is significant as it determines which teams advance to the playoffs.

Twelve varsity volleyball teams from Frisco ISD will compete across three University Interscholastic League (UIL) districts. Centennial, Emerson, Frisco, Heritage, Independence, Liberty, Lebanon Trail, and Memorial will play in District 11-5A. Lone Star, Reedy, and Wakeland are part of District 12-5A along with non-FISD schools Highland Park, The Colony, Creekview, Newman Smith and RL Turner. Panther Creek represents FISD in District 9-4A alongside Aubrey, Celina, Gainesville, Lake Dallas, Prosper Richland, Sanger and Van Alstyne.

Each district sends four teams to the playoffs. Within each district’s playoff qualifiers, the two schools with the largest enrollments advance to Division I while the two smallest move on to Division II brackets for their classification. Teams will have 17 district matches to secure their spot before playoffs start on October 30.

In recent years Frisco ISD has seen notable achievements in volleyball. Reedy reached the state championship match in 2022 as the first FISD team to do so and finished as the 5A state runner-up. Last year Wakeland became FISD’s first volleyball state champion by winning the 5A Division II title.

Wakeland is coming off a shared District 12-5A title with Highland Park before its playoff run last year. Liberty enters this season as defending champion of District 11-5A. According to recent Dallas Morning News area rankings for class 5A-others volleyball teams,Liberty is ranked No. 4 while Wakeland holds No. 5.

District standings will be updated after each Tuesday and Friday night during district play. Varsity schedules for all sports are available at the FISD schedules page, where users can filter by sport or school.
