Rep. Keith Self, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Texas’ 3rd district since 2023, recently expressed his views on Medicaid spending and policy through a series of tweets. These tweets reflect his stance on accountability within Medicaid spending and the importance of maintaining certain legislative measures.
On May 14, 2025, Rep. Self highlighted concerns regarding Medicaid expenditure priorities by stating that “When Medicaid spends more on able-bodied adults who can work than on seniors, pregnant women, children, or the disabled, something is BROKEN.” He emphasized that accountability should not be seen as cruelty but rather as “COMMON-SENSE,” advocating for the implementation of work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving Medicaid benefits.
In another tweet posted later that day, Rep. Self commented on a discussion involving Democratic Representative Josh Harder and Secretary Kennedy regarding Medicaid fraud. He remarked how “Notice how Democrat @RepJoshHarder immediately begins to talk over @SecKennedy when Medicaid fraud is brought up?” indicating his disapproval of the handling of such discussions.
Further reinforcing his legislative priorities, Rep. Self urged for the codification of policies achieved during President Trump’s administration by stating “We can’t let President Trump’s Golden Age wins expire with the stroke of a pen.” His call to action was clear: “Codify. Codify. Codify.”
Keith Self has been an active voice in Congress since he took office in 2023 after replacing Van Taylor. Born in Philadelphia in 1953 and now residing in McKinney at age 70, he continues to engage actively with issues pertinent to his constituency and broader national interests.
