Rep. Keith Self, a Republican congressman from Texas, posted a series of tweets on October 5, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown and expressing his views on the responsibilities of both parties in Congress.
In a tweet published at 13:58 UTC, Rep. Self stated: “It’s Day 5 of the Democrat Shutdown.
@HouseGOP did our jobs to keep the government open and passed a clean CR.
It’s time for Senate Democrats to do the same.”
Later that day, at 19:42 UTC, he voiced support for fellow Texas Representative Chip Roy and referenced an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal: “My good friend and fellow Texan @chiproytx is exactly right
If Republicans fail to seize the moment, they will own it. Don’t expect us to.
