Rep. Keith Self, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, posted a series of tweets on October 9 and 10, 2025, criticizing Democratic lawmakers for their handling of immigration and the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 9, Self claimed that Democrats are prioritizing the interests of undocumented immigrants. He wrote, “Democrats are working overtime to protect the millions of illegal aliens Joe Biden allowed into America because the Left views them as a key future voting bloc.”

Later that day, Self addressed the impact of the government shutdown on military personnel. He stated, “1.3M active-duty service members won’t be paid because Democrats have shut down the government. Chuck Schumer and his party? They don’t care. In fact, they are openly bragging about it.” This tweet referred to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and placed responsibility for the shutdown on Democratic leadership.

In a tweet posted just after midnight on October 10, Self discussed the effect of the shutdown on agricultural support. He wrote, “The Schumer Shutdown is blocking critical aid for our farmers, leaving them stranded when they need support most. Democrats must stop holding government funding hostage!”

Rep. Keith Self has been a prominent figure in Texas politics, having defeated Sandeep Srivastava in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections with over 60% of the vote each time. In 2024, he won with 62.5% of the vote compared to Srivastava’s 37.6%. In 2022, Self secured victory with a margin of 60.5% to 36.9%.
