Rep. Keith Self, a U.S. Congressman who won reelection in 2024 and 2022 against Sandeep Srivastava, has used his social media platform to criticize Democrats over recent government shutdown developments and healthcare policy.
On October 15, 2025, Self posted that “Democrats have shut down the government because they want $1.5 trillion in additional spending, including free healthcare benefits for illegal aliens. How does this help the American people? It doesn’t.”
Later that day, he referenced Vice President Vance and criticized the Biden administration’s approach to healthcare subsidies: “Vice President Vance is correct. Biden’s ‘temporary’ COVID-era Obamacare subsidies fuel waste, fraud, and abuse and plunge our country into further debt without improving healthcare. No Republican should be in favor of permanently extending them.”
In a third post on October 15, Self stated: “Senate Democrats have now voted NINE times to shut down the government. This is a Democrat Shutdown”.
Keith Self has been a prominent figure in Texas politics, securing victories over Sandeep Srivastava in both the 2024 general election—winning with 62.5% of the vote—and in 2022 with a similar margin of 60.5%. These electoral outcomes underscore his continued support among constituents as he voices opposition to Democratic fiscal and healthcare initiatives.
