Rep. Keith Self, a U.S. Congressman who has secured electoral victories in both 2022 and 2024, posted a series of tweets on October 31, 2025, outlining his views on the division of state and federal powers under the U.S. Constitution.

In one tweet, Rep. Self delineated state authority: “State powers → Internal affairs: Lives, liberties, & properties of the people Internal order, improvement, & prosperity” (October 31, 2025).

He contrasted this with federal responsibilities in another post: “Federal powers → External affairs: War Peace Negotiation Foreign commerce (with taxation tied to it)” (October 31, 2025).

Emphasizing his perspective on constitutional interpretation and government scope, Rep. Self added: “The Constitution wasn’t a suggestion. It was a mandate. Time to realign—and confine the federal government to the few and defined powers our Founders entrusted to it.” (October 31, 2025).

Rep. Keith Self has been elected multiple times to Congress from Texas’s Third District. In the most recent general election in 2024, he defeated Sandeep Srivastava by securing approximately 62.5% of the vote compared to Srivastava’s 37.6%. This followed his previous victory in the 2022 general election against the same opponent with about 60.5% of votes.
