The McKinney Chamber of Commerce has reaffirmed its commitment to strive for racial justice and equality.
While acknowledging that disagreements are common, the Chamber stated there is no tolerance for racism and injustice.
“We should all educate ourselves, engage in tough conversations, and acknowledge that there is a lot of work to do,” the Chamber said on its website. “It is something we owe to not only ourselves and our society, but to those of future generations.”
The Chamber further asserted that as a leader in the McKinney community, it wants to do more than just talk.
“We want to be a conduit for change,” it said on its website. “And that change must begin at a local level. Some of this is already taking place with our focus on advocacy through our government and Legislative Issues Committee. But more needs to be done.”
The Chamber implemented a three-prong approach to tackling diversity and inclusion issues in the area. It would first examine itself, then collaborate with other McKinney-based organizations, and finally, form a task force focusing on diversity and inclusion.
