Luke Colton, a junior from Wakeland High School, has successfully defended his 5A state golf championship title at the UIL tournament held at Legacy Hills Golf Course in Georgetown. The competition was condensed to a single 18-hole round due to inclement weather on Monday and Tuesday. Colton’s performance in the first round, where he scored a 3-under 69, secured him the victory.
Colton triumphed by one stroke over Brooks Simmons from Highland Park. His achievement marks his third consecutive medal in UIL state championships; he finished as runner-up during his freshman year before claiming the title for two successive years.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) initially planned to conduct a 36-hole tournament within one day because of anticipated rain on Tuesday. However, heavy rains began on Monday and persisted through much of Tuesday, leading to the adjustment.
While no Frisco Independent School District (FISD) teams participated in the boys’ state championship this year, Centennial girls’ team recently achieved runner-up status in their respective 5A state competition.
