Former State Senator Don Huffines endorsed State Board of Education candidate Jamie Kohlmann saying she “is an actual Republican and courageous leader” who will benefit the public school system.
“Jamie Kohlmann is a fighter who has been in the trenches of the liberty movement for years,” Huffines said in a release. “She is an actual Republican and courageous leader who will EMPOWER parents and PROTECT kids. Jamie has my complete and total support for TX State Board of Education District 12.
Kohlmann, a Republican, is running for a seat on the Texas State Board of Education representing District 12.
She advanced from the Republican Primary on March 5, and will face incumbent Pam Little during the Republican primary runoff on May 28, 2024. Little currently serves as the vice chairman of the Board of Education. Kohlmann received 26.94% of the votes during the district primary, while Little was first with 36.24% of the vote.
Kohlmann is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. She attended Rice University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Previously, she worked as a real estate agent, and served as an education policy analyst for the Texas Public Policy Foundation. She has also served as a board member for BraveLove and a board member for Life on Belay.
Huffines received his BBA from the University of Texas, Austin. Before running for office, he worked for Henry S. Miller Company and was promoted to vice president. Huffines also started Huffines Communities in 1985, one of the largest real-estate developers in the Dallas area.
Huffines ran for the Texas State Senate and assumed office, representing district 16, in 2015. He was reelected for a second term and left the office in 2019. He ran for Texas Governor in 2022, and took third in the Republican primary.
