The Allen City Council recently approved the city’s budget and tax rate for the FY 2020-21.

According to a city news release, the council voted to lower the city’s property tax rate from $0.489 to $0.485 per $100 of appraised value. That continues to be one of the lowest property tax rates in Collin County.

The city’s portion of Allen residents’ total tax bills is 22%. Other taxing entities include Allen ISD, Collin County and Collin College.

Even though the city received a decrease in residential property appraisals and sales tax revenue, new commercial properties resulted in an increase of $396,703 to the city budget, allowing the city to maintain quality services, programs and facilities for its growing population and business community.

The new fiscal year will begin Oct. 1.
