The City of Carrollton is accepting applications for its Public Works Apprentice Program.

According to a news release from the City, program participants will learn about each of the department’s seven divisions – Traffic, Drainage, Streets, Wastewater, Finish Out, Meters, and Water Quality/Production – by shadowing Public Works employees. Participants will have an opportunity to gain new skills and insight into the departments’ importance to the lives of Carrollton residents and will also receive training on the basic principles of personal finance from the City’s Finance Department.

Apprentices will be compensated $13.40 per hour for up to 40 hours per week during this training phase and, upon evaluation of the eight-week program, full-time job offers will be made to selected apprentices. Wages will be based on the position, with an entry level rate of at least $15.35 per hour. All full-time city employees are also eligible to receive a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, free access to the Employee Health & Wellness Center, life insurance, and 2:1 retirement matching.

The Apprentice Program will be accepting applications until noon Dec. 8 and the program will run from Dec. 14 through Jan. 29. Applicants will be subject to a background check and drug test prior to beginning the apprentice program.

Visitors interested in applying for the program can apply online.
