McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD announced today that it has hired Tawn King as its new Director of Human Resources. King brings 28 years of experience in education, including 20 as an administrator.

She joins MISD from Plano ISD where she most recently served as a director in their human resources department. The move to McKinney marks a return for King, who first stepped into a leadership role within the district as a campus administrator.

King began her career as a high school math teacher in Mississippi, a role she embraced for eight years. “But my commitment to education and desire to make a broader impact led me to become a curriculum coordinator and then administrator,” she said. “McKinney ISD offered me my first administrative position as an assistant principal at McKinney North High School in 2005.”

After seven years at North, King relocated to Tennessee and joined Shelby County Schools as a vocational technology administrator, dedicating four years to advancing vocational education.

Her return to Texas in 2016 marked a new chapter when she joined Plano ISD as an assistant principal at Shepton High School. Two years later, she transitioned to the role of Assistant Director for Employee Recruitment and Retention, focusing on attracting and retaining exceptional educators.

Within two years, her dedication led to her promotion to Director of Human Resources, where she supported campus principals and ensured the recruitment of highly talented teachers.

Now at MISD, King expressed her enthusiasm: “I am so excited for this opportunity to return to McKinney ISD,” said King. “It’s wonderful to have a job that lets me do what I am passionate about, which is supporting the most important asset of any organization: its people. I have always considered McKinney my home, and returning feels like coming full circle.”

King added that she is committed to fostering a supportive environment for all staff and students. “As we work together, I am committed to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for all staff and students, ensuring that we continue to uphold the values and standards that make McKinney ISD exceptional.”

King is also proud of her family ties within the community. “I cherish the strong family values that our community upholds,” said King. “It truly feels like coming home.”

King earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Alcorn State University and her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
