Irma Garcia Named Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning
McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has appointed Irma Garcia as the district’s new Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning. Garcia, a longtime curriculum coordinator, will now lead MISD’s elementary curriculum coordinators.
With 17 years in education—all within MISD—and seven years as a district-level curriculum coordinator, Garcia brings extensive experience and dedication to improving student outcomes while supporting educational staff. The senior director position became available following the recent promotion of former Senior Director Molly Hovan to Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership.
Garcia began her career as a math teacher at Dowell Middle School, where she taught from 2007 to 2013. During her tenure at Dowell, she took on additional leadership roles, including Team Lead and Department Chair. Her commitment to instructional excellence led her to become an Instructional Coach, a role she held for four years.
In 2017, Garcia was appointed MISD Coordinator of Secondary Math, significantly enhancing math instruction across the district. Her leadership and expertise have now led her to the position of Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning.
“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity,” Garcia said. “It is an honor to support our dedicated teachers, administrators and coordinators as we work together to enhance student learning. I am excited and committed to fostering the growth and success of all students.”
Garcia holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University–Commerce.
