McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD announced on Thursday afternoon that McKinney North High School Assistant Principal Melissa Hernandez has been named principal of Evans Middle School. Hernandez has 11 years of experience in education, including six years in campus leadership roles—all within MISD.

The district began the search for the next Evans principal following David Hodum’s recent transfer to the principal position at McKinney Boyd High School.

Hernandez began her career in 2013 as a chemistry teacher at McKinney North. During her time there, she served as the lead on the chemistry team and IPC team and contributed to district curriculum development. In 2018, she moved to Dowell to take on an expanded academic and leadership role as an instructional coach. Two years later, she returned to North, this time as an assistant principal. Now, she takes the next step in campus leadership as principal of Evans Middle School.

“I am thrilled for this amazing opportunity to join the Panther Family!” said Hernandez. “I believe that by working together, we can achieve great things and make a meaningful impact on our students’ lives.”

Hernandez earned her bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas and a master’s in curriculum and instruction from Texas Tech University.
