McKinney ISD held its 2024 Leadership Summit on July 17, 18, and 23 at the MISD Community Event Center.

McKinney, Texas – As students enjoyed the final days of summer vacation, McKinney ISD district and campus leadership joined Superintendent Shawn Pratt for the MISD 2024 Leadership Summit under the theme “Team McKinney.” Held at the MISD Community Event Center on July 17, 18, and 23, the event focused on preparations for the upcoming school year.

Superintendent Shawn Pratt addressed MISD leadership at the summit. He emphasized MISD’s commitment to “Every Student, Every Day” as its guiding principle and shared personal anecdotes about the significant impact educators had on his life. “If it hadn’t been for those coaches who saw something in me that I couldn’t see, and invested in me, I would not have gone into education, and I would not be where I am today,” he said.

The summit covered various topics aimed at enhancing student success across all campuses. It included collaborative discussions about future work alongside moments of camaraderie.

One notable segment was a panel featuring McKinney ISD high school students and a recent graduate who participated in a Q&A session about their experiences within MISD.

The summit also included two Q&A panels with last year’s new teachers and current high school students. These sessions provided valuable insights that will help inform the district’s efforts to support both students and teachers effectively.

MISD Board President Philip Hassler spoke briefly on day two of the summit. He expressed gratitude to teachers and administrators for their positive impact on students. “What you do truly matters,” he said. “As the father of two kids in MISD I could tell you countless stories of individuals who work in MISD who have helped guide, direct and counsel my children.”

The summit concluded on July 23. With teachers set to report for duty on Thursday, July 31, and students returning on Thursday, Aug. 8, MISD is prepared to start the 2024–2025 school year.
