Recently, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the removal of Israeli Jews from the Old City of Jerusalem and other related actions. Congressman Keith Self responded by sending a letter to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), condemning the resolution and urging consequences for nations opposing Israel.
The UN General Assembly's resolution demanded the removal of Israeli Jews from what it termed "Occupied Palestinian Territory," including the Old City of Jerusalem. It also called for a diplomatic and economic boycott of Israel and demanded Israel’s military withdrawal from both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
In 2023, fifteen resolutions targeting Israel were passed by the UN, compared to seven resolutions addressing all other countries combined.
“The stakes of the radical, Jihadist war against our ally Israel are so significant that there can be no neutrality when responding to this conflict,” said Congressman Keith Self. “Now is the time to evaluate all US foreign aid for those countries that continually ostracize the United States and Israel at the UN General Assembly. As for our allies who abstained from voting, I strongly urge them to reconsider their position going forward.”
Congressman Self's letter also included a request to acknowledge gratitude towards nations that joined with the US and Israel in voting against the resolution: Argentina, Czechia, Hungary, Malawi, Paraguay, Fiji, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
