Congressman Keith Self has spearheaded a letter, joined by five other House Republicans, urging President Biden to take decisive action in response to Iran's recent escalation of conflict with Israel. The letter highlights the need for the U.S. administration to employ all available measures to support Israel.
The call comes after Iran launched a series of long-range ballistic missiles at Israel, marking only the second such direct attack from Iranian territory. With Hezbollah's leadership compromised and Hamas weakened, Iran appears cornered and has taken significant steps towards its goal of destroying Israel, including advancing its nuclear weapons program.
"We must use every tool at our disposal to support our ally Israel and deter Iran’s offensive efforts," stated Congressman Self. "All approved foreign assistance to Israel must be unlocked and distributed without delay and existing sanctions against Iran should be enforced immediately. The stakes of Israel’s rivalry with Iran have never been higher, and it is vital that the Biden Administration acts immediately."
The letter, co-signed by Congressmen Rudy Yakym III, Brian J. Mast, Mike Waltz, Christopher H. Smith, and Congresswoman Kay Granger, makes two specific requests: release all Congressionally approved aid to Israel that may still be pending and enforce existing sanctions against Iran designed to curb its aggressive actions against the United States and its allies.
