City of Celina issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.

The City of Celina and the Celina Economic Development Corporation (EDC) are proud to announce we have received our official “Gigabit City” designation from the Office of the Governor Greg Abbott. Learn more on the Celina EDC website: https://celinaedc.com/gigabit/

"As technology and connectivity continue to advance, high-speed internet networks are an essential part of the infrastructure required to build better communities and the cities of tomorrow, from education and job creation to public safety and higher standards of living. Thanks to this ordinance, Celina is preparing for the future and has been fully equipped to live, work, and learn successfully from home during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

By installing a fiber optic network in Celina, you have not only helped ensure the future prosperity of your residents, but also enabled your citizens to keep working and learning and, importantly, remain connected. As Texas continues to face the incredible challenges of a global pandemic, we can continue to build the Texas of the 21st Century."
