City of Allen issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.
Mayor Ken Fulk took his oath of office during the Allen City Council meeting on November 24, becoming Allen's tenth mayor. He is the first mayor elected to office in Allen following Mayor Stephen Terrell’s 23-year tenure.
Mayor Fulk brings decades of elected leadership experience and public service to Allen City Council, including previous experience as an Allen City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem, and service on the City's Planning and Zoning Commission and Economic Development Corporation. He has also held various volunteer positions with other groups including Boy Scouts, First United Methodist Church of Allen, Rotary and the Allen Independent School District.
He was elected November 3 to replace Mayor Debbie Stout, who was appointed in March when longtime Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell vacated office to run for county commissioner. Though her term was initially expected to last only nine weeks, Mayor Stout led the City of Allen for eight months after the State of Texas postponed the May 2 election.
"She did an outstanding job," said Mayor Fulk during the November 24 meeting, recounting the many challenges of the prior months: a global pandemic, a postponed election, and an increased focus on social injustice. "That's a lot for anybody to deal with over a long time period, and you had to deal with it over a very short period of time. I just want to express my thanks, the thanks of the Council, the thanks of the staff and the thanks of the citizens for all the great work that you've done for our City."
Councilmember Carl Clemencich was sworn in for his second term during the same meeting. He was reelected on November 3 in an unopposed race for Councilmember Place No. 2.
After taking his seat at the Council dais, Mayor Fulk conveyed his gratitude for the community's support and shared a message to residents, encouraging them to contribute to local decision-making through sharing their feedback and getting involved.
Mayor Fulk committed to donating his Mayor's stipend to a different charity to be announced at the end of each month. Details will be shared on the City website and social media channels when charities are selected.
