The Office of Congressman Keith Self proudly hosted the annual Congressional Art Competition at Collin College in McKinney, Texas, drawing over 200 attendees. Congressman Keith Self stated, “This art competition showcased the incredible talent we have in Texas District 3. The creativity and skill these young artists demonstrated is simply remarkable, and I want to thank every student, teacher, parent, and judge who brought this event to life. I look forward to seeing the winner’s artwork displayed in my district offices and in the halls of the U.S. Capitol.”
The winners from First to Fourth Place are as follows:
- Ethan Qiu – “Introspective” from Centennial High School
- Ameya Kohli – “Let Me Out” from Wylie High School
- Miranda Chen – “Acne Pearls” from The Hockaday School
- Becca Belmore – “The Essence of Jasmine” from Allen High School
The judges of this year’s Congressional Art Competition were Brandon Adams from Greenville, TX, Leticia Herrera from McKinney, TX, and Wendy McIntyre from Allen, TX.
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent nationwide and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC, with the winning works displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
