Abbott: 'Their missions are not only of the highest importance to national security and the success of our military, they are also at the forefront of innovation'

Texas military communities will receive $13.1 million in grants for infrastructure and other initiatives, Gov. Greg Abbott said in a press release.

“Their missions are not only of the highest importance to national security and the success of our military, they are also at the forefront of innovation in cybersecurity, space, medicine and more,” Abbott said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Texas Legislature, TMPC and our military communities to support our nation’s military and ensure these installations remain unmatched resources for our nation.”

The funding for the grant is coming from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s (TMPC) Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant program. The funds are for military communities that may eventually be affected by base realignment and closure processes. In addition to infrastructure, the funding will also help to protect jobs within those communities.

This grant is the second grant to be announced this year. In January, a grant of $15.3 million was allocated. Since 2015, Abbott has granted over $111 million to military communities through the Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant program.
