Congressman Jeff Leach has congratulated Gov. Greg Abbott for being elected as governor for a third term.
"Congrats, governor. Grateful for your principled leadership of the Lone Star State," Leach tweeted.
Abbott was re-elected as governor for a third term after successfully beating opponent Beto O'Rourke, Fox News reported. Abbott first became governor of Texas in January 2015 after serving as the attorney general of Texas from 2002-2015.
Abbott acknowledged Texas' economic growth, his border control policies and stance against illegal immigration while campaigning for re-election, according to ABC.
"We started this campaign in South Texas, we celebrated my primary victory in South Texas. Tonight, we return to South Texas to celebrate my re-election for being your governor for four more years," Abbott said to his supporters.
Abbott is now Texas' longest-serving governor. Pre-election polls showed Abbott ahead by between 2 and 13%. Abbott won by 20.4% in 2014 and 13.3% in 2018, KXAN reported.
