(Washington, D.C.) While Americans are working hard every day to provide for their families, Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats are refusing to do their jobs when it comes to our national debt.

“Years of unchecked federal spending has brought our economy to the brink of disaster, yet the Democrats are just sitting on their hands,” Congressman Keith Self said. “The Republican plan to dramatically reduce current spending delivers real solutions that will help restore America’s thriving economy. Democrats still have no plan except to offer a sweeping rebuke to the GOP and political rhetoric to the American people. I am calling on my colleagues across the aisle to do the job the American people elected them to do.”

The Limit, Save, Grow ACT of 2023 will save $4.5 trillion in future spending. It is designed to promote energy independence, cut bureaucratic red tape and claw back unspent COVID money, without touching Social Security and Medicare, or negatively impacting the lethality of our military. Instead, Republicans are leading the way to help provide a pathway to responsibly raise the debt ceiling. The proposal offers raising the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion or through March 31, 2024- whichever comes first – in exchange for pro- growth policies that provide cost savings to taxpayers.

“The legislation we are offering provides sound policy initiatives that will help reduce the national debt and restart America’s economic engine,” Self said. “The reign of the authoritarian ruling class in Washington is over. It is time for our nation’s leaders to embrace common-sense principles and stay laser focused on reducing the size and scope of the federal government.”

It is likely that this strong package of proposals that provides fiscal discipline will come up for a vote next week. Afterwards, the focus will shift to engaging in the budget process and identifying appropriations cuts in order to achieve long term savings.
