(Washington, D.C.) Congressman Keith Self led a letter to President Biden, along with 32 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives, expressing concern about the administration’s proposed rule promoting electric vehicles (EVs).
The letter urges President Biden to consider the negative effects that the proposed rule would have on U.S. manufacturers and the enormous strain it would put on the electrical grid. The letter goes on to express concern about the increased dependence America would have on China for EV batteries, and the resulting erosion of consumers’ freedom to choose the types of vehicles they wish to purchase.
“Climate change extremism has served as the pretext for unrestricted encroachments on American liberty,” Congressman Keith Self said. “The Biden administration’s latest proposal to curb emission standards hypocritically ignores the significant environmental harm that EV battery production causes and their toxicity.”
The Biden administration’s reckless new rule sets out to promote the radical objective that requires at least half of all new vehicles be fully electric by 2030. The federal government should not be deploying the power of the federal government to usurp free- market enterprise and individual freedoms.
