The president of American Principles Project (APP) supported the Texas governor and legislature for advancing Senate Bill 12, which would prevent children from being exposed to sexually explicit performances.

"‘Sex changes’ are not health care,” said Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project. “Sterilizing and mutilating kids simply because they are uncomfortable in their bodies is criminal malpractice, and lawmakers are finally, and rightly, beginning to treat it as such.

“Gov. Abbott and Texas legislators should be commended for acting to protect the children of their state, and APP thanks them for safeguarding Texas families," he said.

Collin Times reported earlier this week on local Texas State Rep. Matt Shaheen's (R-66) statement in support of the legislation.

According to the Texas Tribune, SB 12 advanced in the State House by a vote of 93-45 with notable provisions being made, including the removal of a specific focus on drag shows. The bill is meant to address any form of sexually explicit performance that may pose a risk to children.

Once SB 12 receives Governor Greg Abbott's (R) signature, the bill would enforce major penalties for any businesses and performers found in violation of the law. Violating businesses could be fined up to $10,000, while performers could face potential jail sentences, fines, or both. According to the bill, sexually explicit performances encompass those involving nudity or those that have a generally sexual nature.
