On September 5, Congressman Keith Self introduced a resolution to designate September 22 of each year as National Military and Veterans Suicide Awareness Day.
“September is recognized as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and I believe it is important to bring additional awareness to the fact that we are losing as many as 22 veterans a day to suicide,” said Congressman Keith Self. “It is our job as Americans to support our military members and veterans. One way we can do this is by recognizing the struggles they face and by bringing attention to the importance of providing adequate mental health support and resources to military personnel and veterans.”
Congressman Keith Self encourages veterans and their families to contact his office at (202)-225-4201 to connect with federal resources for service men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. For anyone considering suicide or struggling with suicidal ideation please dial 988 for immediate access to the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
