Collin County has appointed Janessa "Nessa" Reid as the new Program Coordinator for the Adult Mental Health Court (AMHC). This specialty court is presided over by Judge Jennifer Edgeworth of the 219th District Court and Judge Lance Baxter of County Court at Law No. 3.
Reid, who has over eight years of experience in mental health, will oversee initiatives to assist individuals with mental health challenges within the justice system. Her background includes roles such as a case manager, TCOOMMI Continuity of Care Liaison, and Director of Community Integration Services at MHMR. She has also volunteered with the Denton County LOSS Team and contributed to the Zero Suicide Task Force.
Reflecting on her new position, Reid stated, "I am honored to be part of a program that not only supports individuals in their recovery journey but also provides them with a second chance to rebuild their lives."
Judge Jennifer Edgeworth expressed confidence in Reid's leadership: "We are encouraged daily by the dedication of the individuals in the specialty court who are committed to making their lives better and contributing in a positive way to their community. With Ms. Reid’s experience and passion, I am confident that the program will continue to thrive under her guidance."
The AMHC supports up to thirty participants working towards mental health recovery since its inception in 2023. It offers personalized case management and comprehensive mental health services. The program is funded by a grant from Texas Governor Greg Abbott's office and serves residents aged seventeen and older diagnosed with specific mental health conditions.
The court represents hope for those facing both mental health issues and involvement in the justice system through collaboration among various county officials including District Attorney Greg Willis, Sheriff Jim Skinner, Director Leticia Gibbs, Collin County Commissioners, and members of the criminal defense bar.
