District Attorney Greg Willis's office has successfully secured a 35-year prison sentence for Calvin Ray Hudson, a career drug dealer from Princeton, Texas. This marks the fourth time Hudson is headed to prison. The case began on September 7, 2021, when Plano Police Department Officer Ben Thurmond conducted a routine traffic stop. Initially providing a false name, Hudson was identified and arrested for failure to identify while having an outstanding warrant.
Following his arrest, Officer Richard Varner discovered two empty syringes and a bag containing 20.08 grams of methamphetamine on Hudson. McKinney Police Department Narcotics Detective Joe Arp testified that this quantity indicated intent to distribute rather than personal use.
Judge Jennifer Edgeworth found Hudson guilty of the first-degree felony of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. During sentencing, prosecutors highlighted Hudson's extensive criminal history as a drug dealer dating back to 2007. His previous convictions include multiple charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and two felony theft convictions.
Hudson was still on parole for his 2017 offenses when he committed the crime in 2021. Following the sentencing, District Attorney Greg Willis remarked, “A relentless drug dealer, undeterred by parole and three prior prison sentences for the same crime, has finally been stopped. Collin County families can breathe easier with this 35-year sentence."
The prosecution team included Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Emily Pratt and Nick Lawrance, supported by District Attorney Investigators Stephanie Strickland and Michael Bennett.
