District Attorney Greg Willis's office has secured a life sentence for Deketric Charrontay Love, 27, of Mesquite, Texas. Love was found guilty by a jury of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit invasive visual recording.
The events leading to Love's arrest began on November 11, 2022, when the Frisco Police Department responded to suspicious activity reported by a child who noticed someone peering into his bedroom window. Although no arrest was made that day, the situation escalated on December 2, 2022. The same child discovered unfamiliar items in his room, including a concealed camera on his dresser. Following this discovery, the child's father installed a home security system.
The security system later detected motion inside the house and recorded an intruder leaving the premises. In another incident, the child saw the intruder outside his window while doing homework at night. The child and his father confronted the man and contacted police. The suspect was identified as Love and arrested while attempting to leave the neighborhood in his vehicle.
A search of Love's car revealed additional cameras and items belonging to the child. Data from Love's phone placed him at the scene during these incidents and showed his connection to the home's Wi-Fi and use of an application linked to the camera left in the child's room. Forensic analysis matched Love's fingerprints and DNA to items found in and around the house.
Frisco Police Detectives Walker Martin and Sanja Trtanj conducted investigations that led to Love being found guilty by a jury. During sentencing, prosecutors presented evidence of Love's prior criminal conduct and potential threat to society. At his arrest time, he was on felony probation for online solicitation of a minor in Dallas County.
Investigators discovered explicit child imagery on Love's phone and evidence that he had secretly recorded a former coworker from outside her bathroom window. Six community members testified about Love's repeated voyeuristic behavior.
A licensed sex offender treatment provider testified about Love’s unsuccessful discharge from treatment programs due to refusal to accept responsibility for actions and continued danger posed by him.
After being convicted but before sentencing, jail staff reported that Love made an inappropriate video call further demonstrating lack of remorse according to them; Judge Benjamin Smith sentenced him accordingly: "We've sent strong message: Our community is off-limits predators," said Willis post-sentencing.
