The North Texas Fallen Warrior Portrait Project is set to unveil five new portraits of Collin County servicemen who died in service. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Russell A. Steindam Courts Building. These additions will bring the total number of portraits in the "Hall of Heroes" to 105. The displays have been part of the courthouse's first-floor hallways since 2013.

The portraits honor Nimrod S. Shipp, Louis F. Bass, Ray W. Henslee, Maurice Johnson, and Vernon W. Woody.

Nimrod S. Shipp served as Cook First Class in the United States Merchant Marines on the SS Gulfbelle, which collided with another ship off Palm Beach during World War II, resulting in his death along with 43 others.

Louis F. Bass was a 2nd Lieutenant with the Eighth Army Air Force whose aircraft encountered severe conditions leading to a crash near Norwich, England.

Ray W. Henslee was a navigator in the US Army Air Force shot down over France during World War II while transitioning for Operation Torch.

Maurice Johnson served as Major in the United States Air Force and perished when his plane crashed during a mission in Korea after ordering his crew to bail out.

Vernon W. Woody was a Corporal in the United States Army who died during Operation Cliff Dweller in Vietnam after an accident involving an armored vehicle.

These portraits commemorate their sacrifices and are installed to ensure their stories are remembered by future generations.
