Rep. Keith Self, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 3rd district since 2023, has expressed his views on various political matters through recent social media posts. Self, who succeeded Van Taylor and resides in McKinney, Texas, shared his perspectives on the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), responsibilities of Republican Texas House Representatives, and support for a nominee for Secretary of Defense.
On December 11, Rep. Keith Self conveyed his position regarding the 2025 NDAA package. He stated that despite being a veteran and supporter of America's Armed Forces, he could not endorse the NDAA as it failed to "prohibit funding for transgender surgeries and abortion travel." He emphasized this decision by highlighting "Red lines." "While I am a veteran and unequivocally support America’s Armed Forces, I could not vote for the ‘25 NDAA package as it does not prohibit funding for transgender surgeries and abortion travel."
On December 12, Rep. Self addressed Republican Texas House Representatives in light of their electoral success. He underscored their responsibility to adhere to the mandate given by voters on November 5th. According to him, there should be no reason for these representatives to collaborate with Democrats aiming for a Speaker aligned with their interests. "Attention Republican Texas House Representatives: With your victory comes increased responsibility to follow the November 5th mandate issued by Texas voters."
On December 13, Rep. Self announced his collaboration with fellow veterans in Congress in supporting Pete Hegseth's nomination for Secretary of Defense. This coalition includes himself and Representative Pfluger among others. "I’m proud to join @RepPfluger and 30 fellow veterans in the U.S. House in staunch support of @PeteHegseth for SecDef."
