The McKinney City Council has scheduled a special charter election for November 5, where residents will vote on four proposed amendments to the city charter. Early voting is set to take place from October 21 through November 1.

Voters will decide on the following propositions:

Proposition A proposes amending Section 9 of the McKinney City Charter to establish term limits for the Mayor and City Council members. If passed, they would be limited to three consecutive four-year terms starting with the 2025 election.

Proposition B seeks to amend Section 16 of the charter to provide monthly compensation for newly-elected officials. The proposal suggests $750 per month for Council members and $1,000 per month for the Mayor, effective October 1, 2025.

Proposition C involves amending the charter throughout to correct non-substantive errors such as misspellings and grammar issues. It also aims to update references to obsolete state laws and harmonize conflicting sections while conforming notice and publication requirements to current state law.

Proposition D proposes removing provisions, practices, and policies that are no longer in use by the City of McKinney.
