The City of McKinney, Texas, is marking the fall season with a variety of events scheduled throughout October and November. These activities are designed to offer something for everyone in the community, from children to seniors.
Kicking off the festivities is an "Adapted Recreation: Pumpkin Decorating" event on October 14 at Old Settler's Recreation Center. Participants can decorate pumpkins in preparation for the Trick or Treat Trail event. This activity requires registration but is free of charge.
On October 18, the Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library will host "Diwali: Festival of Lights," featuring performances and illuminated displays. The following day, Towne Lake Park will open its doors for the "Trick or Treat Trail," where families can enjoy a 1.2-mile walk filled with costume contests and food trucks.
For younger children aged 2 to 12, the Apex Centre will present a "Pumpkin Dunk" on October 20. Kids can select pumpkins from a floating patch and then decorate them. Registration is required for this event.
Art enthusiasts can visit the McKinney Performing Arts Center from October 21-25 for "Nature's Tapestry: Wings of Change Art Exhibit," which showcases nature-inspired art pieces.
Preschoolers and their parents have an opportunity to join themed activities during the "Trick-or-Treat March" at Senior Recreation Center on October 25. Later that week, on October 26, family-friendly Halloween activities will be held at Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library during the "Halloween Haunt."
November begins with a Western-themed "Mother & Son Date Night" on November 1 at Old Settler's Recreation Center. On November 2, participants aged six and above can engage in creating La Catrina wood art as part of a Holiday Craft celebrating Day of the Dead.
The month continues with more events such as “Fall Y'all” at John & Judy Gay Library on November 9 and a Veterans Day Ceremony at Corporal RD Foster Veterans Memorial Park also scheduled for November 9.
Other notable happenings include a Holiday Craft Fair on November 16 and Grandparents Camp featuring pumpkin snowmen creation set for November 25 at Senior Recreation Center.
To wrap up, Thanksgiving celebrations titled “Thanks and Giving” will occur on November 26 at John & Judy Gay Library offering turkey crafts and greeting card making sessions.
