Congressman Keith Self has introduced a bill proposing the relocation of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency headquarters to Texas. Currently, the headquarters is situated in Washington, D.C., approximately 2,000 miles from the southern U.S. border.
The proposed move aims to decentralize Washington bureaucracy, cut operational costs for the CBP, and position the agency closer to the frontline of border issues. Congressman Self stated, "For four years, the Biden administration opened our southern border to over 10 million illegal aliens, including murderers, gang members, and suspected terrorists—forcing Texas to be their gateway."
He emphasized that Americans delivered a clear mandate on November 5th, 2024, which includes addressing border security. Congressman Self added that under President Trump’s leadership, "CBP will immediately begin to seal our border and halt the flood of illegal aliens." He believes relocating the CBP headquarters to Texas is a practical step that will enable Border Patrol agents to be present at critical points along the border.
