The Centennial High School boys wrestling team and the Frisco High School girls wrestling team recently showcased their skills at the Texas State Dual Championships. Both teams achieved the status of 5A state runner-up in this event organized by the Texas High School Wrestling Coaches Association, held in Wichita Falls.
This competition differs from University Interscholastic League (UIL) events as it involves entire teams competing in a bracket rather than individual wrestlers. The 5A bracket featured 16 teams for both boys and girls, with four rounds leading to the championship match.
Frisco's team had victories against Amarillo Tascosa with a score of 48-24, Azle at 54-18, and Leander Glenn at 60-12. Meanwhile, Centennial won against Leander with a score of 60-17, Lubbock Cooper at 49-27, and Cedar Park at 41-31.
In the final round, Frisco was defeated by Lubbock Cooper with a score of 48-24. Similarly, Centennial lost to Azle with a score of 42-32.
The upcoming event for all FISD wrestlers is the District 8-5A meet scheduled for January 29th and 30th at Memorial High School. This meet includes all twelve FISD high schools along with The Colony High School. Notably, all Frisco ISD high schools compete within the same district for wrestling.
