Today, Congressman Keith Self introduced a bill aimed at renaming the United States Postal Service facility located at 2600 Wesley Street in Greenville, Texas. The proposed new name for the facility is the “Cooper Dawson Post Office Building,” in tribute to fallen Greenville Police Department Officer Cooper Dawson.

Officer Dawson lost his life on November 25, 2024, while on duty. He was conducting a traffic stop involving a driver with multiple felony warrants when the situation escalated into a foot chase. During this pursuit, Officer Dawson was ambushed and shot several times by the suspect. Despite sustaining injuries, he managed to return fire and incapacitate the assailant.

“Officer Dawson made the ultimate sacrifice for our community,” stated Congressman Keith Self. “It is a debt that can never be repaid, and we will forever carry his memory in our hearts. It is a great honor to introduce this bill to commemorate Officer Dawson’s legacy and his remarkable, unwavering bravery in the face of danger.”
