City of Allen issued the following announcement on April 28.
The City of Allen is planning a phased return to pre-COVID operations with some changes beginning on Friday, May 1.
Many City facilities closed or offered limited services beginning March 23 due to state and local orders. Texas Governor Greg Abbott will allow some of those restrictions to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 30.
“Though some limitations will be lifted on May 1, our normal operations will not resume overnight,” said City Manager Eric Ellwanger. “We are working with each facility and department to ensure our phased reopening plans align with state guidelines and protect the health of both citizens and staff.”
What changes on May 1?
Parks and recreation facilities
Golf and tennis will be the first City operations to see major changes under guidelines provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Courses at Watters Creek will allow up to four players per game and will resume cart rentals with a limit of one person per cart. In addition, Grill 33 will reopen with a 25% limit on occupancy. Details.
Tennis courts will reopen for singles or doubles play, with no more than four people permitted on a court at one time.
Allen Public Library
Though Texas libraries may open as early as May 1, Allen Public Library will remain temporarily closed while preparing various safety measures to protect visitors and staff. Reopening plans, when finalized, will be announced at AllenLibrary.org. Library card holders may begin using a new curbside pickup option beginning Monday, May 4. Details.
Other facilities
Restaurants, retailers, movie theaters and malls may resume operations on May 1, but must limit customers to 25% occupancy and follow other state guidelines related to health and safety. Gyms, bars, salons and barber shops must remain closed. Houses of worship are encouraged to follow guidelines provided in the Reopen Texas plan. If you believe a facility is exceeding occupancy limits or operating unsafely, call the Allen Fire Department Help Line at 214.509.4333.
What’s next?
City facilities
The City of Allen is working to safely expand services at several City facilities, including Allen City Hall and Allen Municipal Court. Some in-person appointments and payment options will resume at these facilities later in May. Recreation centers will remain temporarily closed.
Playgrounds and outdoor sports
The Texas Department of State Health Services recommends outdoor sports be limited to no more than four participants at any time. Playgrounds, including the Celebration Park spray ground, will remain closed until further notice. People may continue using trails and open spaces while staying at least six feet away from people who don’t live in their household.
