This week, the Collin County Sheriff's Office fired a correctional officer for allegedly bringing in a cellphone and charger for an inmate.
Correctional officer Tyler Moody, an employee at a Collin County jail since 2019, was fired by Sheriff Jim Skinner and arrested for allegedly bringing the cellphone and charger to an inmate; a FOX 4 News report said this week. Bringing in contraband to inmates is a third-degree felony.
A video of Skinner firing Moody was posted in a press release from the Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.
"You're fired, you're no longer an employee here, you understand?" Skinner said in the video. "You betrayed the trust of every citizen that we have the privilege to serve and you betrayed the trust of the brave and selfless men and women that you've worked alongside for nearly three years."
After officers at the facility found the cellphone and charger in an inmate's cell, Moody confessed to bringing in the phone for the inmate to use in exchange for money; the FOX 4 report said. Moody was arrested and booked in the same jail he worked in. His bond, set at $5,000, was already posted and he has been released.
The inmate who received the contraband cellphone is also expected to receive additional charges.
