Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is doing his part to take action against the fentanyl crisis.
He wants to prevent the number of deadly overdoses that occur as a result of drugs tainted with fentanyl from climbing higher.
Cornyn recently held a forum at Children's Health Specialty Center Dallas Campus to talk about the fentanyl problem facing the nation, Texas included, according to NBCDFW.
"In Dallas, 'a call to arms' to prevent fentanyl overdoses," Cornyn said in an October 21 Twitter post. He linked to an article by MSN.
Parents who lost children to fentanyl overdoses were among those at the roundtable discussion, NBCDFW reported. Also present were Chris Durovich, president & CEO of Children's Health, and Eric Johnson, mayor of Dallas.
"Fentanyl has become a significant public safety threat across this entire country," Johnson said.
Cornyn introduced legislation that would provide extra financial support for substance abuse disorder programs, according to NBCDFW. It is currently waiting for approval from the U.S. House of Representatives.
The senator thinks everyone should be on board with fighting the war on drugs, MSN reported.
"I think it should be something that's a consensus position, just as the war on terror after 9/11," Cornyn said. "You can't run, you can't hide. You have to confront it head-on, and that starts at the White House and ends in every living room, every school room in our state."
