U.S. Rep. Colin Allred pointed to the addition of 40,000 jobs in September as well as economic growth as positive news for the state of Texas.
Allred, a Democrat, took to social media to tout the numbers, citing a Dallas Morning News report that noted the 40,000 jobs added for the month marked a new employment highwater mark for the 11th consecutive month.
“Great news for Texas as we continue the work to lower costs across the board, create jobs and grow our economy for North Texans,” Allred said in the social media post.
Citing the Texas Workforce Commission, the Dallas Morning News noted that the additional jobs lowered unemployment in the state to 4%, a drop of 0.1%. The report also noted that only Florida created more new jobs than Texas for the month.
The report was particularly positive for Dallas-Fort Worth, with the report noting the addition of 7,800 jobs. The Morning News also reported that across the state, the hospitality industry added 25,700 jobs, while transportation and utilities added 7,600 workers and health and social assistance brought on 6,200 new workers. It also noted that real estate hired 5,800 workers, while construction lost 2,600 jobs, linked to the cooling housing market in the state.
Julian Alvarez, a member of the Texas Workforce Commission, told Local Today that more Texans are working now than ever before, adding that “more people work in Texas than the entire population of the state of Pennsylvania.”
