A Plano, Texas, man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing three children.
Luis Escobedo, 32, was found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child by a jury, according to a news release posted on the Collin County, Texas, government website. The sentence eliminates the possibility of parole for Escobedo.
"The jury's verdict says it is completely unacceptable to prey on children," District Attorney Greg Willis said in the news release. "And if you do, then you'll spend the rest of your life in prison, unable to harm another child."
Escobedo started abusing the children when they were as young as five years old, the news release noted. The incidents were ongoing for 12 years until one child confided in a family member. The two other children admitted that they were abused as well during a family meeting. The Richardson Police Department and Child Protective Services were notified about the crimes.
Judge James Fry sentenced Escobedo to 60 years in prison, according to the news release. Jamin Daly and Mollie Thompson, assistant district attorneys, prosecuted the case with help from Kim Voigt-Eanes and Robin Laughon, Collin County district attorney investigators; Niccole Frazier, victim assistance coordinator; and Christy Ware, legal secretary.
