McKinney ISD announced its policy today for providing free and reduced-price meals for children under the current income eligibility guidelines. Copies of the policy are available at each school/site or the central office upon request.

Starting August 1, 2024, McKinney ISD will distribute letters to households in the district detailing eligibility benefits and application procedures. Applications can be obtained at 510 W. Heard St., McKinney, TX 75069, at school front offices, or online at www.myschoolapps.com.

Eligibility for free or reduced-price meal benefits is determined based on several criteria:

Income:

1. Household income at or below eligibility levels.

Categorical (Automatic) Eligibility:

2. Households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).

Program Participant:

3. Child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant, or displaced by a declared disaster.

4. Child’s enrollment in Head Start or Even Start.

For income-based eligibility, an adult must complete an application and return it to Meals Benefit Manager at 510 W. Heard St., McKinney TX 75069, phone: 469-302-6378. Required information includes names of all household members, current income details for each member, last four digits of the Social Security number of the signing adult (or indication if none), and a signature attesting to the accuracy of provided information.

McKinney ISD collaborates with local agencies to identify categorically eligible children and will notify these households that no application is necessary. Households not receiving such notification but believing they qualify should contact Ana Gamez at [email protected] or call 469-302-6378.

Applications can be submitted anytime during the school year and may be verified by school officials as needed.

Under the free and reduced-price meal policy provisions, applications will be reviewed by the Meals Benefit Manager who determines eligibility. Dissatisfied households may discuss decisions informally with reviewing officials or formally appeal orally or in writing to Business Office at 1 Duvall St., McKinney TX 75069; phone: 469-302-4008; email: [email protected].

Households experiencing unemployment or size changes should contact their school as these changes might affect benefit eligibility based on updated income guidelines.
