McKinney residents participated in the general election to decide on four charter amendment propositions. According to unofficial results from the Collin County Election Administrator, two of these propositions were approved.

Proposition A, which suggested term limits for the Mayor and City Council members of three consecutive four-year terms starting with the 2025 election, did not pass. Proposition B, proposing compensation for newly-elected Council members and the Mayor beginning October 1, 2025, also failed.

Proposition C was approved. It aims to correct non-substantive errors such as misspellings and grammar issues, revise references to outdated state laws, harmonize conflicting sections, and align notice and publication requirements with state law. Proposition D also passed; it seeks to remove provisions no longer employed by the City of McKinney.

The Early Voting Ballot Board will process provisional ballots from Election Day and late overseas ballots by November 14. The City of McKinney plans to certify the official election results between November 13 and 15. Notice for the City Council meeting to certify these results will be posted at least 72 hours in advance as required by state law. Further details on total votes can be found on the Collin County Election Results page.
