Rep. Keith Self, representing Texas' 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, shared his thoughts on recent political developments and fiscal issues through a series of tweets on January 21, 2025. His remarks focus on President Trump's executive orders and the national debt.

On January 21, Rep. Self commented on a new executive order from President Trump requiring all federal employees to return to in-person work. He stated, "Another Day 1 Executive Order from President Trump: All federal employees must return to work in-person. I expect many to quit in response…This mandate alone will cut unnecessary fat from our bloated federal agencies."

Later that day, Rep. Self highlighted the nation's financial situation by reminding his followers of the significant national debt figure. He tweeted, "Friendly reminder we are $36 TRILLION in debt. A cut here, a cut there—opportunities to cut government spending are limitless. Let’s get to work!"

In another tweet posted shortly after, Rep. Self posed a rhetorical question regarding potential budget cuts and national debt reduction strategies with regard to governmental expenditures on portraits. He asked, "Serious question: Can we get a refund for this portrait of shame? Got to start somewhere with the national debt!"
