Frisco ISD wrestlers showcased their talents at the UIL State Championships over the weekend, with 16 athletes securing positions as 5A state placers. Two teams from the district also achieved top ten finishes in the state rankings.
Michael Brennan from Wakeland High School emerged victorious in the 132-pound category, claiming the 5A state championship. Brennan's win marked a historic moment for Wakeland, as he became the school's first wrestling state champion. He clinched his victory with a reversal in the final moments of his match, ending with an 8-7 score.
Centennial High School's Yusuf Uribe secured second place in the 126-pound division. Additionally, four female wrestlers from Frisco ISD advanced to their respective finals: Jordyn Parker from Centennial (126 pounds), London Woods from Frisco (132 pounds), Layla Asana also from Frisco (165 pounds), and Camille Harris from Memorial (185 pounds).
The girls' team from Frisco finished fourth overall in the 5A team standings, while Wakeland's boys placed sixth.
