Frisco ISD is guaranteed a regional champion in the upcoming girls basketball playoffs, though it comes at the cost of one district team eliminating another. Memorial secured their place in the Class 5A Division II Region II championship by narrowly defeating Midlothian Heritage with a score of 37-36 on Tuesday night. Wakeland also advanced to the regional final after winning against Killeen Ellison, 50-42.
The matchup between Memorial and Wakeland is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Denton Braswell High School. Tickets will soon be available through Denton ISD.
The winner of this game will move forward to the 5A Division II state semifinals, facing off against either Argyle or Lubbock Monterey for a chance to compete in the state championship on March 1 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
In other Frisco ISD news, Heritage reached the regional semifinals in the 5A Division I bracket but was defeated by Red Oak with a close score of 43-40 on Tuesday.
"Good luck to both Memorial and Wakeland. Go Frisco ISD!"
