Council Recognizes the BEST Neighborhood Designations

Major items approved during the Jan. 22 City Council Meeting were: 

Requirements Residential - 2024 

Requirements projects are location-based work orders for moderate-sized areas of disrepair. These areas need higher quantities of concrete repair and more traffic control than city crews can provide. City staff inspects the third-party construction work to ensure it meets city specifications.

This $1.7 million contract with two optional renewals covers repairs across Plano:

• 13,000 square yards of residential street and alley pavement
• 15,000 square feet of sidewalk
• 45 barrier-free ramps

Municipal Center Chiller Replacement  

At a cost of almost $300,000, chiller units will be replaced at Plano Municipal Center. The existing gas absorption units have reached the end of life and need to be replaced to reduce repair costs. Four gas absorption units will replace the old units.

Water Rehab – Steeplechase Estates 

If you live in Steeplechase Estates, prepare for more than $3 million in improvements to water distribution in your neighborhood. This rehabilitation project includes the replacement of 6,825 linear feet of 6- and 8-inch water mains and associated pavement replacement. The work area is along the following streets:

• Ascot Drive – West Park Boulevard to Steeplechase Drive
• Steeplechase Drive – Triple Crown Lane to Manor Lane
• Triple Crown Lane – Steeplechase Drive to Wavertree Lane Alley
• Manor Lane – Steeplechase Drive to Wavertree Lane Alley
• Pathfinder Trail – Triple Crown Alley to Manor Lane
• Gallant Fox Lane – Triple Crown Lane to Manor Lane
• Wavertree Lane – Triple Crown Lane to Manor Lane

TEEX Training Interlocal Agreement 

The City has entered into an interlocal agreement with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) for $19,000. TEEX will provide two confined space entry training classes to water, wastewater and drainage field staff who routinely encounter confined spaces. The class is normally $1,000 per participant and requires attendance at an off-site location. Through this agreement, the cost is $594 per person and is held on-site at the Gerald P. Cosgrove Operations Center.

The TEEX Mobile Confined Space Safety Trailer will provide hands-on training to perform confined space entry, assist workers with entry or supervise employees assigned to make entry into a confined space. Trained employees will be able to better determine if a confined space is safe to enter.
