Frisco High girls wrestling team wins District Championship

Frisco High School's girls wrestling team claimed the District 8-5A Championship on Thursday, accumulating a total of 189.5 points during the competition held at Memorial High School. The team was bolstered by nine medalists, securing their victory in a field that included several schools.

Lebanon Trail secured second place with 143 points, while Lone Star came in third with 129.5 points. Other top contenders in the district included Centennial and Liberty, who finished fourth and fifth with scores of 97 and 92, respectively.

The tournament featured wrestlers from seven high schools within the Frisco Independent School District (FISD) — namely Centennial, Frisco, Lebanon Trail, Liberty, Lone Star, Memorial, and Panther Creek — as well as The Colony High School. Competitors vied for titles across 12 weight classes.

The top four finishers in each weight class have earned the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition at the 5A Region II meet scheduled for February 7-8 at Loos Athletic Complex in Addison.

Highlighting individual performances from FISD athletes: Esther Essien of Liberty triumphed in the 100-pound category; Manya Vennapu from Frisco won at 107 pounds; Evelyn Fuentes from Lone Star took first place at 114 pounds; Ava Lee from Panther Creek was victorious at 120 pounds; Jordyn Parker of Centennial won her class at 126 pounds; London Woods from Frisco clinched victory at 132 pounds; Mackenzee Bunton from Lone Star dominated the 138-pound class; Emma Ward from Lebanon Trail succeeded in the 145-pound category; Chioma Nwaigbo from Frisco emerged victorious at 152 pounds; Loni Stanskas from Lone Star excelled in the 165-pound division; Camille Harris of Memorial led her weight class at 185 pounds; and Sara Lepsis representing Centennial topped her category at a weight of up to 235 pounds.
