Collin County has appointed Dwayne Kurtz as the new constable for Precinct 2, succeeding Gary Edwards, who retired in December after a 49-year career. Kurtz brings 38 years of law enforcement experience from Dallas and Collin counties to his new role.
Kurtz, a Texas native, began his law enforcement career at age 21 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He has lived in Collin County for the past nine years and is now set to serve its community as constable.
His career includes leadership roles such as Chief Deputy, Lieutenant, SWAT Commander, and Sergeant. His expertise covers covert operations, highway drug interdiction, high-risk warrant service, and dignitary security. He has worked with federal, state, and local agencies on task forces focused on organized crime, narcotics, and fugitive apprehension. Notably, he developed a specialized Mental Illness Team to improve interactions with individuals in crisis.
Kurtz holds advanced certifications including Master Peace Officer and Mental Health Unit Certification. He graduated from the East Texas Police Academy and completed leadership training at Camp Pendleton in California. His training also includes narcotics interdiction and firearms instruction.
As he begins his tenure as constable, Kurtz aims to build upon the foundation laid by Edwards while bringing his own vision for serving Precinct 2 residents.
The Precinct 2 Constable's Office is located at the Sub-Courthouse Lavon office at 1025 S. State Highway 78 in Lavon, Texas. Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
