Frisco ISD is gearing up for another round of potential state championships as the soccer playoffs commence. Following successful seasons in team tennis and volleyball, where Centennial and Wakeland secured state titles respectively, the district is optimistic about its chances in soccer.

A total of 15 teams from Frisco ISD have advanced to the playoffs. In District 11-5A girls' category, Memorial, Lebanon Trail, Centennial, and Heritage will compete. The boys' teams from the same district include Centennial, Heritage, Memorial, and Liberty. District 12-5A sees participation from Wakeland, Lone Star, and Reedy for the girls' teams while Wakeland and Reedy represent the boys. Panther Creek has both its girls' and boys' teams competing in District 11-4A.

While specifics regarding playoff opponents and schedules are yet to be finalized, Frisco ISD's track record in recent years fuels their confidence. Over the past eight seasons, Frisco ISD has claimed nine UIL state championships in soccer. Notably absent was a champion in 2020 due to tournament cancellations amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Historically dominant at these tournaments since 2015, Wakeland's programs have been particularly successful. They achieved a rare feat by sweeping both boys’ and girls’ 5A state titles in 2018 and again came close last year with a win for the girls’ team while the boys finished as runners-up.

As April approaches with state champions set to be crowned between April 10-12 in Georgetown, all eyes will be on Frisco ISD to see if they can continue their winning legacy this season.
